'Supernatural' Season 11 Spoilers & Predictions: Darkness Falls Upon the Winchester Brothers

Oct. 7 is the date "Supernatural" fans are all waiting for. The show, which has lasted an impressive 10 seasons, is set to return to the small screen for its eleventh. Season 10 left fans on tenterhooks -- Crowley, the king of hell, was attacked by the angel Castiel (under Rowena's spell), while Rowena removed the Mark of Cain from Dean, accidentally releasing The Darkness. The last time viewers saw Dean and Sam, they were being swallowed by a tornado of darkness.

So is season 11 going to be a dark and dreary one for the two brothers? Here's what we know.

According to the show's official synopsis, the first episode, entitled "Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire," Dean and Sam "must deal with the Darkness that has been unleashed." Based on this, we know that Darkness, which God himself battled way before the Biblical records, will play a key role throughout the season.

Jared Padelecki, the actor portraying Sam, talked to Pop Sugar about this season's twists. "The brothers are brothers again! We have had so many years where these boys have had reasons to be apart. Even though they don't know what The Darkness is, it's pre-biblical. It predates God, Castiel, and Crowley, so they are completely out of the world. The boys are there together, and that is supercool for me," he said.

One popular fan prediction for the upcoming season is that God may finally appear. According to a prediction by MStarz, this might be the season when fans will finally get to see God. He was actually a big part of Season 5, but did not make an appearance. If God shows up, another possible plot will be Lucifer's return. Hence, a showdown?

On a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Padalecki hinted this possibility. "I think [the Darkness] certainly opens the door for Lucifer and/or God to pop up," he said. "We're certainly going back to that and going a bit more biblical and having our take on the writings that didn't make it into the Bible."

After 10 remarkable seasons, "Supernatural" is still going strong. Find out if season 11 may be its best season yet on Oct. 7 as it debuts on The CW.
