'Resident Evil 7' Umbrella Corps Update: Capcom's Rationale for the Latest Game in the Series

Capcom has unveiled its latest addition, "Resident Evil 7: Umbrella Corps," to its zombie-apocalypse game at the Tokyo Game Show last week. According to Express, with the games popularity in the West and the Horror-appeal for the Japanese audience mind, Capcom still focuses its efforts on the third person shooter game.

Furthermore, according to Express, Umbrella Corps uses a close-quarters battle that allows players to use the zombies as a "human" shield during firefights. The game will also involve mercenaries looking forward to be rewarded by the Umbrella Corporation if they successfully retrieve the corporation's research resources. This "Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps" will still include some environments that are also in the previous "Resident Evil" game series therefore there will be a wide map to explore. But basically, this latest game is more of a spin-off and as a shooter game it satisfies with the shooter-game genre.

While speaking on the tradition that the game is built upon, Umbrella Corps producer Masachika Kawata recently share with Gamespot that, "Resident Evil still means survival horror to most people, but it's also a brand that has evolved over time. It's been around for 20 years, and over that time it's seen a variety of spin-off and side titles. We think it's important to have a variety of experiences within that single brand."

"I think some people might have been surprised that we came out with a third-person shooter like this. But creating experiences that branch out from the core, mainline franchise has always been part of the Resident Evil series," Kawata added. "Of course, if people are looking forward to games that are more back on the main track that we've released so far, we've got stuff in the pipeline in that direction too." Kawata also said the game has a nice selection of experiences that could match most players' preference.

"Resident Evil 7" is expected to be released sometime next year.
