iPhone 7 Features & Rumors: New Smartphone's A10 Chip To Feature Six-Core Processor, Could Be As Small As 10NM?

A new report has surfaced on Monday saying that Apple's rumored upcoming smartphone, the iPhone 7, will feature an A10 chip which could be as small as 10 nanometers. It was said that the device's upcoming A10 processor will be able to perform multiple tasks with significant improvement in speed since it uses a six-core processor.

If such rumor is true, industry experts claim that the A10 mobile chip could be considered a big leap in innovation. It will also be a departure from Apple's dual-core processor which can be found in its previous iterations such as iPhone 4S and iPhone 6S, a report from iDigital Times said.

"Multi-core processors allow devices to better handle more data and commands simultaneously. However, the performance efficiency of a multi-core chip also depends on how well the iPhone 7 software balances speed and battery life, something that Apple has always done well in the past," the report said.

It can be recalled that aside from the rumor that Apple's iPhone 7 will feature the A10 processor, it was also said that the device will feature front-facing speakers, wireless charging and an 8 MP selfie camera. Recent rumors suggest that device will also be waterproof and dustproof. The A10 chip will reportedly be manufactured by the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). It was said that production will start on March next year.

"While specifics go unmentioned, Apple could be exploring methods of transplanting technology from Apple Watch, a device specifically designed to accommodate active lifestyles. For example, iPhone 7 might sport an encapsulated system-on-chip processor and water-tight gaskets. More exotic solutions include applying hydrophobic coatings to sensitive electrical components via a vapor deposition process, or integrating silicone seals at water ingress points, according to patent filings," Apple Insider reports, citing a patent document about the rumored iPhone 7.
