Hip-hop artists are known for their outlandish outfits, ostentatious blings, and lavish cars. Another thing they have in common? Luxurious homes. Forbes has recently revealed who the true kings of Hip-hop are, and the top five all happen to live in Los Angeles. Let's take a peek into their cribs.
Coming in at number five is multiple-Grammy winner Pharrell Williams, who earned $32 million this year. According to Variety, "The Voice" coach bought a sleek, architectural skyline residence in Laurel Canyon last May. It sits on a 1.55-acre lot and has six bedrooms. The design uses a lot of glass and sliding doors to maximize the awesome view of the property.
It also has a separate two-story guesthouse, a motor court, an infinity pool, and a deck on top of the garage that transforms into an outdoor screening room. Pharrell bought it for $7.14 million. According to Variety, the asking price was $9 million. Turns out the "Happy" singer also has a knack for bargaining.
At number four is Dr. Dre, who banked $33 million. This year, Dr. Dre sold Beats Electronics and its famous headphones to Apple for a cool $3 billion. Perhaps a part of the profit he made went to Tom Brady's former mansion, which he bought for $40 million, as reported by LA Times.
The mansion's exterior is made of limestones, and the interior uses old hard wood on the ceilings and floors. Who knew Dr. Dre's taste leaned towards conventional country?
The 4-acre property has a moat and a koi pond in front of the house. Inside, there's a gym, a sauna, five bedrooms, and nine bathrooms.
Drake bags the third spot in Forbes' list with his $39.5 million paycheck. Serena Williams' beau owns a lavish estate in Hidden Hills since 2012. According to Curbed, the property actually looks like a camp, only with lavish and out-of-this-world amenities. Aside from multiple swimming pools, it has a game room, a 28-seater theater, spa, gym, tennis court, volleyball court, stables, and even an equestrian ring!
The house was listed in 2009 for $27 million. Drake snagged it for $7.7 million, beating Pharrell at the bargaining game.
Jay-Z is this year's second highest-earning hip-hop magnate, earning $56 million this year. The rapper and his superstar wife, Beyonce, were renting an amazing mansion in Holmby Hills until very recently, when they were forced to vacate because it had been listed for sale. LA Curbed reported that the mansion, with a $150,000 rental fee, looks like a modern boutique hotel. It comes with seven bedrooms, eight and a half bathrooms, a wine cellar, a kitchen that could accommodate a full catering service, an infinity pool, theater, and tennis court. It also has an art gallery that's 75 feet long and two libraries.
It now sits on the market for $35 million, a very affordable price given Jay-Z's paycheck.
Not very far from Jay-Z's rented mansion is Sean Combs P. Diddy's estate. He tops this year's list with $60 million earnings. TMZ describes his 17,400-square-foot mansion as "sick," with outrageous amenities including an underwater tunnel!
Diddy bought the house in 2014 for $40 million. The European-style villa also has a 35-seat theater, wine room, spa, and a beauty salon.
