Donald Trump, the iconic real estate tycoon, has offered to pay for the cancelled White House walk-through trips. Trump will be investing a good $74000 to keep the tours going, which were axed by the government as a part of the "sequester"- spending cuts.
The White House first announced the cancellation Tuesday. Officials stated that the tours would be suspended through the end of September to save on extra spendings. The tours stopped running Friday, reports Yahoo.
The cancellation sparked off a controversy. Some Republicans argued that the democrats were using the cancellation plan in order to draw negative reaction from the American public toward the spending cuts, reports CNN.
According to the Daily Mail, the idea of Trump funding the tours was first proposed online by former White House speaker, Newt Gingrich.
"Donald Trump should offer to pay for the White House tours. He can afford it and it would show who cares more for American students," Gingrich tweeted.
However, when Trump was asked to respond to the tweet during his appearance on Fox News's "Fox and Friends", he said:
"I think it's so nice of Newt to suggest that, I don't know anything about it.... I like Newt a lot. I didn't hear this, but it sounds reasonable to me. Why not?"
Trump also opined that the cancellation of the tours was a part of the government's game and was being used to prove a political point. He also asserted that the plan was ridiculous. Though the cancellation was not a very big deal, Trump thought that it made the Americans look awfully bad and pathetic, reports Politico.
Trump was more recently all over Twitter. He posted something about changing his "much-talked-about" hairdo, which garnered a lot of funny comments. One of the users suggested "shaving off the head", while another one said "rotate front and back every one thousand miles". While some comments were nice to him and asked him to "leave it be", another cheeky tweet said:
"God no. then the press would focus on your height! :X"
