Radisson Hotel Duluth to Undergo $4M Renovation in the Coming Months

Radisson Hotel in Duluth is set to undergo renovations again to bring back the 1970s grandeur of the Harborview hotel. The renovation project is priced at $4 million.

Duluth News Tribune reports that the renovation is basically meant for the hotel's guest rooms, which have not been updated since the early 1990s. The publication calls the renovation project a "big investment."

The report further states that Radisson Hotel Duluth's banquet rooms will also be updated with new carpets and wall coverings. There are also plans to build a bar in the hotel lobby. Other areas that will also be renovated are the hotel pool, the property's sidewalks and the parking surface. A new valet parking space to a nearby location will also be added to "relieve tight weekend parking."

Hotel manager Carl Kaeding talked about the hotel and the upcoming renovation. "The building was rundown the last 10-12 years of its life, but that can be remedied. Half of that is physical upgrading, and the other half is working with management. Hopefully, in time, people will embrace it like they once did. The idea is to bring it back," he said.

According to Kaeding, among the common complaints about the hotel are the outdated rooms and the parking space. It was also said that Radisson Hotel Duluth's management is considering building a coffeehouse in the hotel in place of its Superior Street-level Bowery Bros. pub.

TwinCities.com reports that Radisson Hotel Duluth has been renovated several times in the previous years. In 2013, the hotel's mechanical systems were replaced, which cost $3 million. The hotel and lobby restaurants were also remodeled in April 2014, before the hotel was bought by the Kaeding investment group.
