Time-Lapse Video “New York day” Captures NY like Never Before (VIDEO)

A brand new time-lapse video, "New York Day" capturing the metropolitan and edgy beauty of the city has gone viral on the Internet. The video is made by time-lapse photographer, Samuel Orr, who claims that the film is just a small part of his larger time-lapse project, "New York Year".

More than a 100,000 photographs of the city went into the creation of the video. According to Buzzfeed, Orr took four separate trips between 2011 and 2012 to collect photographs and portray the changes in the city over the year. The total time spent on photographing the city was around six weeks. Some of the clips are sped up videos as well.

Once he had all the pictures, Orr combined the pictures and converted them into a 30-frame-per-second time-lapse video. The special feature of the video? Orr added natural sounds of the city, heard from various vantage points, which almost all time-lapse videos lack.

Orr was an ecologist before turning into a time-lapse photographer. He started off by shooting documentaries of the changes in nature like a germinating seed and changing natural landscape. However, on a vacation to New York in 2009, he found out that a city changes as much as people and natural habitats, reports Mashable.

"On a visit to NYC a few years ago, I realized that the city changes as well, in ways that people don't often notice, and thought it would be cool to make a short film about the city coming to life pre-dawn, commuters heading in, the activity of a day, and the reverse in the evening," Orr said in an interview.

While "New York Day" was more focused on the city's one busy day, "New York Year" will be a compilation of small time-lapse videos that will focus on lives of New Yorkers and the different seasons in the city.

Time-lapse videos/photography has gained much popularity over the past few years. The creative concept has been used in parts and segments of various movies, series and short documentaries.
