It is of common knowledge that "Batman: Arkham Knight" would be the last franchise in the series that was developed by Rocksteady Studios. However, a high-ranking official from Warner Bros. said that this will not be the last time that avid fans and gamers will see their caped superhero, hinting that there are "endless possibilities" and potential for the Batman franchise, a report from Gamespot said on Tuesday.
In a PlayStation Blog interview, Ames Kirshen, vice president of product development for the Arkham and DC Comics games at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, said that "the Batman franchise has limitless potential in terms of where it could go in the future."
Kirshen hinted a positive direction that the video game will undertake in the future since the company considers both Batman and the "Arkham" series essential among the best titles in Warner Bros.' gaming portfolio.
"Batman is one of the cornerstone IPs for Warner Bros. With the Arkham series, we were finally able to realize the full potential of the character. We don't have anything to talk about at this time [regarding future Batman games], but the possibilities are endless with a character as dynamic and beloved as Batman," Kirshen said.
Aside from Rocksteady, other gaming studios that were known to work in collaboration with Warner Bros. are NetherRealm for "Batman: Arkham City Lockdown" and "Injustice: Gods Among Us" and TT Games for "Lego Batman," which will also reportedly develop some extensions of the "Batman" franchise.
Dark Knight's final appearance in the game is said to be via Lego Dimensions, and this includes Warner Bros. toys franchise, which was launched last week.
"You have to understand and respect the core essence of the franchise. But you can't be a slave to every single aspect of its history or continuity in translating it for the gaming medium. More importantly, you have to have the talent, vision, and passion from the development teams to make great games and treat them as they would an original IP. We've been blessed at WBIE with studios and talent such as Rocksteady, NetherRealm, and TT Games," he said.
"The company's overarching approach to Batman video games is to make sure that the 'core essence' of the franchise is embodied in every new game. But at the same time, it's important not to be beholden to the past," Gamespot noted.
