As we all know, Google has made the transition to creating a phablet screen size and a flagship price and it didn't disappoint coming with top tier specs and features, plus stock Android on board, techradar.com reports.
Google just recently unveiled "Nexus 6P" which is their successor for "Nexus 6" and the release was made alongside "Nexus 5X." How will this new Nexus compare to the old one given the several changes it brings on the table like Huawei taking over the manufacturing from Motorola?
Design
Compared to previous Nexus phone, "Nexus 6P" offers a sleeker look with its all-metal and slimmer body at just 7.33mm thick. So far, it is the most premium looking Nexus handset yet and fans can choose between silver (Aluminum), black (Graphite) and white (Frost) exteriors.
A protruding top bar however kind of breaks the supposed sleek and seamless design of the phone. Still, it's a far better handset than "Nexus 6" aesthetic wise with the old version coming with a hard plastic case and at a chunky 10.1mm thick.
Display
"Nexus 6" surpasses the 6P in terms of screen size with the former offering 5.96 inches compared to the newer version which is at 5.7 inches. Still, both are within phablet territory.
Both boast nice and sharp displays, thanks to 1,440 x 2,560 (QHD) AMOLED screens. The newer Nexus comes in at around 515 pixels per inch (ppi) while "Nexus 6" achieves a slightly inferior 493 ppi.
Power and performance
In terms of performance, while "Nexus 6" stood powerful when it first came out with a 2.7GHz, quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM, "Nexus 6P" easily beats it with an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, though it too has 3GB of RAM.
"Nexus 6P" also surpasses "Nexus 6" in terms of storage as it launches 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB varieties compared to 6's 64GB max.
Camera
"Nexus 6" offers 13MP which is nearly a megapixel more than the 6P's 12.3MP. However, 6 struggles shooting in low light which the 6P handles better with its 1.4-micron pixels within the sensor. With these supersized pixels, "Nexus 6P" is expected to perform better in low-light and indoor photography.
The front camera of the newest Nexus is also boosted to an impressive 8MP compared to 6's 2MP.
Operating System
"Nexus 6P" will be carrying Google's latest version of mobile operating system (OS), Android Marshmallow compared to 6's Android Lollipop which is one version behind.
Features
Flagship phones such as "iPhone 6S" and "Samsung Galaxy S6" feature a fingerprint scanner which is almost considered a requirement. And unlike "Nexus 6," "Nexus 6P" is sporting the feature with the Nexus Imprint. However, unlike those from other brands, the scanner sits on the back instead of on the front below the screen.
Battery
"Nexus 6P" is expected to be a long-lasting smartphone with a larger 3,450mAh battery compared to Nexus 6's 3,220mAh juice pack. Both however do well come charging time, thanks to speedy QuickCharge 2.0, but 6P offers more with a reversible USB-C port which makes for easy plugging.
Price and Availability
"Nexus 6P" comes out at a starting price of $499 (around £449 / AU$714) which is actually more affordable than when Nexus 6 first launched. The latter is currently available while you have to wait until later this October for "Nexus 6P" through pre-order. An official release date is yet to be announced by Google.
