Variety's Real Estalker, Mark David, shared yesterday with readers that veteran actress and producer Debra Winger and her husband (stage and screen actor Arliss Howard), just purchased a renovated co-op apartment located at the Beaux Arts building in New York City's Upper West Side.
The $1.85 million-property measures 1,700 sq. ft. with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It features a long entrance gallery which links the compact foyer to a living room that has a wooden floor and windows on its three walls. According to listing details, the adjacent dining room is easily converted to a third bedroom. It has inset display shelves and its bay window overlooks a courtyard. The roomy kitchen features stone-tiled floors, granite counters, and custom cabinetry. The master bedroom has two closets, a soaking tub for two, a separate stall shower and a retro style, black and white tile flooring. Online marketing materials reveal that the two unit combination located at the lower floor of the building carries a hearty maintenance fee of more than $2,400 a month. The property was listed on the market by Harry DiOrio of Douglas Elliman.
The three-time Oscar and Academy Award nominee has owned a pair of penthouse apartments in another Upper West Side building. The couple also maintained a residence, of over an acre in size, fronting the Hudson River in Irvington, New York, which they bought in 1998 for $1.6 million. It was sold in 2011 for $2.1 million.
Winger retired from show business and was quite inactive since the mid-90s. She has worked sporadically since then to focus on her family. She, however, will return to television next year to co-star in the Netflix original series "The Ranch." Her purchase of this New York property is her debut in the celebrity property column before her much-awaited come back.
