Lady Gaga is named as Billboard's 2015 Woman of the Year. Last year, Taylor Swift was given the prestigious award and she graced the intimate event along with Aretha Franklin, Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea and many more. This year, more honorees for the Women in Music will be released in the weeks to come, according to Billboard.
Billboard and Lifetime partnered in order to televise the said event. It has been reported that Lifetime was able to get a three-year deal with Billboard to televise the event for the first time. The inaugural televised outing will be produced by Don Mischer Productions which will be held on Dec. 11 at Cipriani Midtown in New York. It will be aired on Dec. 18.
Liz Gateley (Executive Vice President and head of programming at Lifetime) shared that they are thrilled to telecast the event. She said, "We're delighted to partner with Billboard on this special event, bringing it to a mass audience for the first time ever."
"Lady Gaga is an extraordinary artist, emblematic of the strength, courage and fortitude that Lifetime celebrates, and we are thrilled to offer our platform to recognize her in every way she deserves," Gateley added.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Gaga made a jazz collaboration last year with Tony Bennett for the album "Cheek to Cheek" which garnered a Grammy award. The pop star royalty just released her latest video entitled; "Till It Happens To You." This is written for the documentary "Hunting Ground" which will premiere at Sundance in January and will soon air on CNN.
Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media's entertainment group, said, "Billboard's Woman of the Year has always represented the finest in music, and the anointing of a key influential figure who drove the conversation for that year. No one embodies that more than Lady Gaga in 2015."
She added, "From her show-stopping performance at the Oscars, to her co-headlining tour, to her philanthropic outreach and foundation promoting youth well-being and empowerment, to her new role as TV star, there is no woman dominating popular culture tastes and its evolution as much as she is today. What a force."
