We understand the excitement of finally moving into your new home. And as much as we do not want to kill your vibe, there are apparently several important things that you need to take care of for that smooth and hassle free move.
Here are 6 things you need to do before you move into a new house according to Realty Times:
Change your address
You don't want your mails (especially urgent ones) going to your old address while you're sipping some wine in your new home without knowing that you have a red billing to take care of. So make sure to change your address as early as possible to avoid these kinds of problem; just go to your local Post Office or United States Postal Service's website and they can help you with that.
Update your contact info
Don't forget to update your information in important businesses such as creditors, financial institutions, schools, publications, etc. The Post Office would roll out the mail but it's better to do the updating yourself and ensure that your new address is on file.
Tell your mailman and say "Thank You"
They sure want to know, especially if they've been constantly trying to find you so you can sign your mail.
Change the locks
You don't want to be using the same locks that the previous owners have keys and duplicates for, right? It's for security purposes and simply for your own peace of mind.
Get the house deep cleaned
Your new home could be clean as you see it, but can you really trust there is nothing left there? Starting a new life is much better without having to deal with other people's crumbs and dust bunnies. Hire a professional crew to do a "professional cleaning" to make sure that every corner, closet, cabinet, and just about every spot is cleaned to perfection.
Clean the carpets
According to Dr. Philip Tierno in an article by Men's Health, carpets can be "4,000 times dirtier than your toilet seat". Now that's something you would want to seriously deal with. If you don't have a budget to get a new carpet, you should at least spend on professional carpet cleaners who can do the job of cleaning the carpet off of dirt, dust, and even germs and bacteria that could pose potential threat you and your family's health.
