The new Samsung Gear S2 Smartwatch will be the latest face of the tech company's wearables.
The unveiling of the round Tizen-based wearable occurred during the IFA in Berlin, Germany.
The Samsung Gear S2 Smartwatch is described by PC World as a round smartwatch, with circular icons that bear more than a passing resemblance to the interface of the Apple Watch. The smartwatch runs on Samsung's own Tizen-based Operating System and not the usual Android Wears. Even with a different operating system (OS), the smartwatch can be paired to any Android-operated device, as long as it runs with KitKat 4.4 or above, and has a minimum of 1.5GB of RAM.
Samsung Gear S2 however runs at its best when paired with a Samsung device. When paired with another Samsung device, you'll get another functionality like the Samsung Pay.
Samsung Gear S2 has two designs to choose from with varying prices. The sporty look of the standard model will cost you $299, while the much more classic look will be available at $349.
The new smartwatch by Samsung also has a variety of bands and finishes like the Apple Watch. This includes a heart-rate sensor, as well as microphones for voice recognition. It also comes with built-in NFC.
Samsung also plans to release another model with a 3G-connection this Fall. The connection will enable the smartwatch to make phone calls and texts without being tethered to a phone.
According to the report of Mashable, the Samsung Gear S2 is one of the most attractive wearables out there since the release of the Apple Watch, though it may also come with some drawbacks. The Tizen OS is not yet compatible with lots of Android Wear Apps that is in the market, which means that app developers may want to start over if they want their apps to be supported in the Samsung S2 Gear.
The Samsung S2 Gear will be available on Best Buy, Amazon and Macy's this Oct. 2. There will also be in-store hands-on times at Best Buy and Macy's flagship stores in Herald Square, New York.
