Ashanti Faces Stalker in Court - Denying Relationship; Talks Nelly Split

Ashanti is back in the witness stand as she stated her testimony against a long time stalker. Last Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme court, the R&B singer denies Debar Hurd's claim that they're in a relationship.

As per Daily News, the 37-year-old Hurd is acting as his "own incompetent lawyer" during their latest trial. Back in 2009, he was convicted of stalking and harassing Ashanti's mother and manager Tina Douglas. The stalker would send her explicit images and raunchy text messages to pass on to her daughter, Ashanti.

He may have laid low for a couple of years, but now he's back in facing charges as he broke protection orders by contacting the singer and her sister though the social media website, Twitter. He also attended two events to get close to Ashanti's sister, Kenashia.

This hearing is the Ashanti's 2nd court appearance after December's mistrial.

During the trial, Rachel Ehrhardt asked Ashanti if she ever had a relationship with Hurd. She then gave a straight answer stating: "Absolutely no. Never, ever,"

She then stated that: "I'm really nervous and scared of exactly what he's capable of doing to myself and my family."

The singer then described how Hurd harassed her family for years. She, her mother, and Kenashia all appeared in court and shared their testimonies.

Aside from the court trial, Ashanti also had her fair share of heartbreak as she and Nelly called it quits after 10 years of dating. As per US Magazine, the duo didn't give out the reason in regards to their breakup she did however state that she felt betrayed.

At "Meredith Vieira Show", the host asked her: "You aren't together anymore and you said it basically came down to trust, Why do you think it's hard to trust somebody?"

Ashanti then stated:

"I think sometimes when people have their own insecurities it allows them to act out of character. I've been betrayed, Again, you just have to grow. You have to grow up and accept responsibilities for the things that you do," she continued, without giving specifics. "I'm not a big fan of people being cowards. I think it's really important to know yourself and understand what you want and get it. I'm in a different place right now."
