Tech giant Apple has released the iOS 9.0.2 which contains some minor updates and fixes the lockscreen vulnerability of the mobile operating system. Apple users have earlier spotted what they call a "security flaw" that allows Siri to be used to bypass the phone's lock screen. The new OS update comes after a week after iOS 9.0.1 had been rolled out earlier this month, The Inquirer said.
"The flaw, outed by YouTube user 'videosdebarraquito' allows anybody to gain access to a locked iPhone's contacts and photos by activating Siri from the lockscreen. To replicate, simply enter four different incorrect passcodes, and - carefully so as not to temporarily lock yourself out of iOS 9 - enter three digits of the fifth. Then hold down the home button to fire up Siri as you enter the fourth," the publication said, describing the lock screen vulnerability in iOS 9.0.1
Below are the official release notes of iOS 9.0.2 from the Apple's official website:
"Lock Screen
Available for: iPhone 4s and later, iPod touch (5th generation) and later, iPad 2 and later
Impact: A person with physical access to an iOS device may be able to access photos and contacts from the lock screen
Description: A lock screen issue allowed access to photos and contacts on a locked device. This issue was addressed by restricting options offered on a locked device."
Macrumor reports that iOS 9.0.2 update fixes other issues spotted by Apple users. The update also includes tweaks to improve the operating system's general performance. Enumerated below is the list of fixes and improvements.
- "Fixes an issue with the setting to turn on or off app cellular data usage
- Resolves an issue that prevented iMessage activation for some users
- Resolves an issue where an iCloud backup could be interrupted after starting a manual backup
- Fixes an issue where the screen could incorrectly rotate when receiving notifications
- Improves the stability of Podcasts"
"Today's iOS 9.0.2 update precedes iOS 9.1, which will be the first significant update to iOS 9. iOS 9.1 includes new emoji and an option to disable contact photos in Messages. It also focuses on introducing compatibility for upcoming Apple products like the iPad Pro and the Apple TV," the report noted.
