Just weeks before the opening season of NBA, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr announced that he would be taking a leave of absence in order to recuperate from his back surgery. The former Chicago Bulls point guard turned coach that brought Golden State Warriors its first NBA title in 40 years last season shared via espn his current disposition. Steve Kerr in a statement said that;
"After the first two days of training camp, I realized I need to take a step back and focus on my rehabilitation in order to be ready for the grind of another NBA season. As I noted last week, my summer was difficult and no fun due to the multiple back surgeries. At this point, I simply want to get healthy and back to my normal daily routine on and off the court."
It can be remembered that during the Game 5 of the NBA Finals, Kerr ruptured a disk in his back. The injury sustained by Kerr lead to two surgeries, one in July and recently last Sept 4. And for this reason, Kerr decided to take a leave of absence. The Warriors on the other hand does not know yet when would their head coach be coming back. Bob Myers, Golden State Warriors general manager, stated in an interview that;
"At this point, the most important thing is to make sure Steve is healthy, completely recovered and ready for not only the rigors of a long NBA season, but day-to-day life in general. We don't anticipate the recovery process will be long term, but as of today we don't know the exact time frame. We'll evaluate his progress daily and provide updates as necessary."
According to some reports, since Kerr decided to take a leave, he will be replaced momentarily by the son of Hall of Famer Bill Walton, Luke Walton. The soon to be head coach of the Warriors, Walton, would be up to the task in defending their title as the current NBA champion team. Walton is not new to the team for he served as an assistant for Golden State last season and he also coached the team's summer league squad this year.
