Kameha Grand Zurich Hotel: New Space Suite Inspired by ‘The Martian’ Lets You Experience How It Feels to be in Space

Kameha Grand Zurich hotel in Switzerland has come up with a unique facility for its guests. The property has launched its new "space suite," which reportedly looks like a space station and was inspired by the upcoming film "The Martian."

CNN reports that among the extraordinary features of the hotel is its "zero gravity" bed. The bed reportedly appears as if it's floating to provide guests a similar experience as it is in space. However, the German artist Najiar who designed the room said that the main goal for the design was to make guests feel how it's like to live in a space station, so the bed may not be as comfortable as one would expect.

"The intention was not at all to create a comfortable bedroom. It's more about creating an immersive environment which makes the hotel guest feel like living on a space station," the designer shared.

Besides the "floating" bed, Kameha Grand Zurich's space suite also features a direct link to NASA TV. Hotel guests can watch a live stream from the International Space Station for a more authentic space experience. Other design elements were also incorporated in the space suite such as spotlights that look like rocket engines, a "shelf shaped like a space glove to hold phones or key cards," and "two-screen video installation visualizing space debris in Earth's orbit."

Najiar further said that people staying in the suite will forget that they're actually in a hotel and will instead feel like they're on board a space station.

Though Kameha Grand Zurich's space suite offers a unique experience, it comes with an expensive price tag of $2000 a night. According to Carsten K. Rath, CEO of Kameha, the new room especially caters to "someone who would like to have an overall art experience."

Kameha Grand Zurich is known for offering unique rooms which its official website describes as a "charmingly whimsical way" that designer Marcel Wanders integrates a Swiss essence in the property.
