Google Nexus devices are the first ones that will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. During the Sept. 29 event, Google has confirmed that the new operating system will roll out to existing Nexus smartphones - Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player - starting Oct. 5.
Of course, the newly launched Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P -- which can now be pre-ordered in the U.S., the U.K., Ireland and Japan -- already have Android Marshmallow, Androidpit reported.
While waiting for the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, users of Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 or Nexus Player can install the third Android M developer preview to get a look of what's in store from the new OS.
Here's how to install the Android M developer preview 3, according to Androidpit:
First, ensure that you have created a backup of your data and settings because installing the preview will wipe your device.
To back up using a Google account, go to Settings --> Backup & reset --> Back up my data. Make sure you have the backup account already set up before you tick Back up my data.
To create a backup on your PC, install and run the Wondershare MobileGo app on your computer. Plug your Nexus device on your PC. On the My Device tab, click the One-Click Backup. All data that are available for backup will be shown; uncheck the items you don't need (it's a chance to do some spring cleaning!).
Select the location where you want to save the backup file and then click Back Up. Once the process is completed, click OK and close the window.
Download the ADB Tools and unzip the files. Download the preview for your respective device: Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player. Unzip the files to the ADB Tools folder.
Turn off your Nexus device, then restart it to the bootloader by pressing and holding power and volume down buttons.
Connect your device to your computer. Go to the ADB Tools folder and open flash-all.bat file. Let the process be finished and when your Nexus device reboot, it will be running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow preview.
If you want to restore your backup, go to Settings --> Backup & reset --> Automatic restore. To restore the backup on your PC, open the Wondershare MobileGo app, go to Super Toolkit --> Restore.
