Episode two of "Empire" titled "Without a Country" finds the Lyons back to square one. In a recap by NY Daily News, Cookie has found a small space for a new record label that she is forming with her sons Andre and Hakeem. The two are unimpressed by their new office but Cookie reminds them that Lucious began his music career in their Aunt Carol's place.
Hakeem plans to form a girl group just like Destiny's Child and plans to call it "Rainbow Sensation." Meanwhile, Jamal was doing an interview for a British TV channel when Cookie shows up to demand for the rights of his new album. Jamal refuses and Cookie tells him she is starting her own label.
In the same recap by NY Daily News, Lucious hires a new lawyer. His name is Thirstan "Thirsty" Rawlings. Jamal tries to dissuade his father against the shady attorney but Lucious would not listen to him.
Lucious gets access to recording equipment thanks to Thirsty. He starts a freestyle session that is interrupted by Ludacris who plays a bad cop. Lucious vows to take revenge on him. Andre visits his father to ask forgiveness but Lucious tells him "You believe in God...pray that he forgives you 'cause I don't."
Meanwhile, in a review by Pop Crush, to cap the episode, Lucious soon finds himself back in court for a bail hearing. Thirsty comes through for Lucious as he comes with "new evidence" that forces the judge to grant freedom to his client on bail. Finally, Lucious Lyon is out again and Cookie and her new label is in for quite a surprise.
