3 Keyless Entry Systems: Choose the Best for Your Home

Ever had that unpleasant experience of scouring through your bag, your things, and your pocket to find your keys, or even worse, being locked out of your own house? That period spent of frantically searching for your keys, no matter how short, is still a waste of time and can even cause undue anxiety and stress. A keyless entry system, therefore, can be a better alternative.

Shelley Little described in FresHome some of the leading systems and their features.

1. The Schlage Connect

It comes with a Grade 1 Security Rating, the highest in the market. With its motorized and strong deadbolt, the system supports 30 users, allows family and friends to enter a code without a key, gives tamper alerts, has built-in alarms, and is compatible with the Z-wave technology. It is available in different styles and finishes, including stainless steel and decorative copper, and is priced for $150-$200.

2. MiLocks Electronic Touchpad

While it offers three series of keyless entry systems: the D-Series, R-Series and Q-Series, so far it is only the D-Series which has reached #1 Best Seller status on Amazon's doorknob category. The locks are available in antique brass, satin nickel, polished brass and oil-rubbed bronze. For a retail price of $50-$80, it offers up to six assigned user codes, has both keyless and standard key options, and comes in deadbolt, lever, knob or handle set and bolt combination styles.

3. Kaba E-Plex: Commercial-Grade Keyless Entry

It offers four main keyless entry product lines: E-Plex, Simplex, Powerplex and Embedded Access Control. Of the four, the E-Plex series is the most adaptable for the home. It is available in standard chrome satin or bright brass. Among its benefits are no door wiring required, programmable for up to 100 access codes, can be easily programed with keypad or with optional Excel-based software, can record 1,000 lock events, can be programmed to unlock, and retails for $350-$650.
