The long wait is over for the BB fans, BlackBerry fans that is.
John Chen, Executive Chairman and Blackberry CEO, finally announced their company's entry into the realm of Android smartphones, perhaps leaving behind their troubled BlackBerry OS. Chen confirmed via technewstoday the future of BlackBerry running Android softwares. On the Official Blackberry Blog he stated that;
"I confirmed today that the slider phone we very briefly unveiled earlier this year will indeed be an Android smartphone named PRIV by BlackBerry."
So what is PRIV? (Click for Image)
Chen stated that Priv stands for "privacy" and "privilege," in context it can be understood as the privilege to maintain privacy, which is something that BlackBerry really takes seriously. Though there are still no exact details about the coming BlackBerry Android, Priv would accordingly come "with a curved, 5.5-inch display and has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard." When it comes to some apps, sadly BlackBerry would be having some difficulty with it. According to Chen, "I think that everybody loved the BlackBerry 10, they really do, but there's not enough apps." Less number of apps would not mean less functionality, for aside from the fact that the company are courting more developers, BlackBerry itself has tons of its homegrown apps which would suit your need. Aside from the software, you should not forget that BlackBerry is one of the smartphones that has a durable hardware. Chen assures us that Priv would have "the latest Qualcomm specs and the cameras and other good stuff." Some experts expect to see a powerful processor on this flagship product for BlackBerry Android, having the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with eight cores would somehow suffice. I believe all of us are excited to see this latest change in BlackBerry, particularly on BlackBerry Priv. And for us to know the real score of it, we would just have to contend ourselves with speculations and wait for the exact shipment date, which is said to be on the latter part of this year.
