Just when all home design stores failed to provide you with the perfect rug, sofa, lamp, and wall hanging for your upcoming home upgrade, you consider looking online in hopes that you will find the one, and you do! There they are, staring at you, and you are jumping to bring them home.
To make sure that you don't get the items in your doorstep only to send them back because of glitches that come with online shopping, here are 4 important things that you need to do before you make that online purchase according to Apartment Therapy:
Check the measurements
Be very careful when buying things like sofas, tables, rugs, or basically anything that needs to be in the right size to fit your space. Don't just make the decision basing on the product photo as pictures can be sometimes deceiving. Products like these should come with measurement details so don't forget to click on that tab and compare the measurements with that of your home's.
Check the return policy
Especially with large items like furniture, always consider the company's return policy as some, even well-established ones, refuse to take returns for oversized items or would charge a hefty restocking fee.
Check the shipping policy
The shipping policy should be able to tell you exactly how and where an item will be shipped for oversized items. What does the policy say? Will the furniture come in a box and delivered to your front door, or are they going to bring it in your house, take the item out of the box, set it up, and take away the packaging? How about the company's policy for stairs? You would want to spend a few minutes to read the policy or you would get surprised when the company charges you with extra fee each flight for taking your mattress to the second floor.
Look for coupons
Always, always look for coupons before making a purchase online. It's simple: just Google "name of retailer + coupons" and you might just save a lot of money on something that you are planning to buy.
