The London-based architecture firm, DOS Architects has revealed images of the Olympic size swimming pool in Erbil, Kurdistan in Iraq. The firm had won a competition in 2012 to design the arena and has shared its proposed plans.
According to the photos with Designboom, the building front looks like a large "X" with a wooden backdrop and from the side, it looks like a giant semi-circle. The building has two large curved concrete beams that imitate the bend of "agitated water". The beams are supported and elevated by wooden walls on the sides, while the points crossing at the two beams will serve as entry and exit routes.
The roof will be made of steel and glass, to provide natural illumination for the interiors of the stadium. Along with a large pool, the place will have a 2000-head seating arena as well. The flooring will be done with layers of transparent glazing.
Outside, the place will have a public square, a buffer zone between the large parking lot and the main building. The project is slated to start construction in late 2013.

DOS Architects recently won another competition for its design for the "4season house" - a carbon neutral home with smart control systems. The design is based on sustainable energy efficient solutions.
The home has super insulation and ventilation. The design provides for ample natural light with both active and passive solar heating systems. Rooftop planting, rainwater harvesting, smart water and electricity usage systems etc are some of its other characteristics.
Other new projects of DOS Architects include the Abidjan Lagune Waterfront, a mixed use development on Ivory Coast, West Africa.
