"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 star Ian Somerhalder recently talked about Damon Salvatore's fate now that Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) is no longer around. The actor also dished on what his character's relationship with Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) will be like in the upcoming installment.
In an interview with TV Fanatic, Somerhalder said that Damon will be determined to be true to what Elena wants for him.
Before she decided to go on a deep slumber, Elena told Damon to enjoy his life and live it to the fullest. With this, Damon will try his best to live up to what his ex-girlfriend wants for him.
Meanwhile, the actor also talked about the brotherly tension that will come into play between Damon and Salvatore in Season 7. With the presence of their mom Lily in their lives, Damon and Stefan will have different views about her and the Heretics. However, despite their differences in opinions, Damon and Stefan will agree on one thing, and that is to make sure that the Heretics will not take Mystic Falls from them.
The actor also dished on Damon and Bonnie's growing friendship on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7.
"Every time he looks at Bonnie, he only sees not Elena. So he does love her, but it's an unfortunate situation that they find themselves in because it's that thing of every time he looks at her, he just pushes her maybe she could bring Elena back," he said.
There are some speculations that Bonnie and Damon will be romantically involved with one another in the upcoming season. In an interview with TV Line, Graham said that Bonnie will have a new love interest and that the character has been part of the show for the past couple of seasons.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. ET.
