Rihanna and Chris Brown may have no official relationship right now, but there's no lost love between them. In her Vanity Fair cover interview, the "B*tch Better Have My Money" singer said that Brown will always be his last real boyfriend.
Rihanna has opened up about how she tried to reunite with the 26-year-old rapper even after the fact that he assaulted him six years ago. She reportedly firmly believed that she could change him.
"I was very protective of him. I felt that people didn't understand him," the "Diamonds" hitmaker told Vanity Fair, which featured the 27-year-old in their November issue.
For the second time that Rihanna and Chris got back together after the 2009 incident, she claimed how she wanted to rescue her former boyfriend like she was his guardian angel. There was even a point when she asked the court to lift the restraining order against the father of one three years after the incident, Daily Mail reports.
"I don't hate him. I will care about him until the day I die. We're not friends, but it's not like we're enemies. We don't have much of a relationship now," she said. Rihanna continued and said that Chris will always be her last real boyfriend.
Before the Grammy's on February 7, 2009, the "Loyal" singer left the Barbadian singer on the street bloodied and with a swollen face when he assaulted her in his rented Lamborghini. She has rarely spoken about the case, but she detailed her painful experience in the 20/20 show. In the interview with VF, she said that it's now in the past. However, the incident allegedly still haunts her, People reports.
"But, for me, and anyone who's been a victim of domestic abuse, nobody wants to even remember it. Nobody even wants to admit it. So to talk about it and say it once, much less 200 times, is like ... I have to be punished for it? It didn't sit well with me."
Six years after the assault case, Rihanna and Chris reportedly still catch up to each other like before. They acted like they were a couple in April at the Coachella festival. In May they were last pictured together as they were getting cozy in a New York night club.
Rihanna's Vanity November photos were taken by Annie Leibovitz. The magazine will be available on Oct.13.
