‘Elementary’ Season 4 Premiere & Spoilers: Oscar is Alive but Won’t Be Featured Soon; Is the Show Better than Benedict Cumberbatch’s ‘Sherlock’?

The Season 4 premiere of "Elementary" is drawing near, and according to reports, the first episode of the hit TV series will answer questions that were left hanging in the Season 3 finale. One of these is whether Oscar (Michael Watson) is still alive.

According to Design & Trend, the Season 3 finale of "Elementary" showed Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) viciously attacking Oscar in a railroad tunnel. The episode ended with Sherlock beating up Oscar, so the fate of the character was not revealed.

However, executive producer Rob Doherty has revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Oscar is still alive and that viewers will still get to see him in the show at some point.

"He is definitely not dead," Doherty said. "I was live-tweeting that episode, and I was surprised when more than a handful of people thought Sherlock had committed a murder. The intention was absolutely to make it look like Sherlock had committed a violent crime, but no, Oscar is not dead. [And] that will be made very clear in the first episode."

Doherty, however, clarified that Oscar won't be featured in the premiere episode of "Elementary" Season 4, and that it may take a while before viewers get to see him again. He pointed out though that the character had a huge impact on Sherlock.

Meanwhile, Moviepilot has come up with a comparison of "Elementary" and Benedict Cumberbatch's TV series "Sherlock." While both shows are based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic character, but in a modern setting, the two popular TV series are reportedly different in many ways.

According to the publication, "Elementary," as a procedural drama, breaks down story arcs into 45-minute episodes, while "Sherlock" takes time crafting drama in each episode. "Elementary" also features a female Watson played by Lucy Liu, while "Sherlock" features the original character John Watson, played by Martin Freeman. The site argues that it would be better if "Sherlock" also features a main female character soon.

Moviepilot also points out the difference in portrayal of Sherlock's character by the lead actors Cumberbatch and Miller. While Cumberbatch rose to fame because of his character's bizaare behavior in the show, Miller reportedly was able to "hold his own" when portraying the character. Miller's Sherlock is reportedly more willing to make room for others than Cumberbatch's character.

"Elementary" Season 4 is set to return to CBS on Nov. 5.
