Selena Gomez has revealed that her break from the spotlight was caused by her Lupus diagnosis and that she underwent Chemotherapy.
The 23-year-old singer talked about the details on why she went away from the spotlight in the recent weeks, during an interview with the Billboard Magazine for their Oct. 17 issue.
"I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke," Gomez told the magazine. "I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're a**holes.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again."
Gomez also shared to the magazine that her hate from her bashers has been her motivation for her new album.
"I'm so f**king nice to everybody, and everyone is so vile to me. I've been working since I was seven. I've been a UNICEF ambassador since I was 17. It's so disappointing that I've become a tabloid story," shares Gomez. She added that, "The hate motivated me."
Gomez also cleared up the rumors that her break was caused somehow by her infamous ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber. "No. This is my time. I've deserved this. I earned it. This is all me," Gomez said.
In the Billboard interview, Gomez admitted that the internet trolls talking about her body had affected her. "That was the first time I'd experienced body shaming like that. I believed some of the words they were saying. When somebody else has your self-esteem in their hands..." admitted the singer/ actress. Due to her experience, Gomez bravely bared her body in her new album cover. The new album is entitled "Revival."
Her new album includes her breakout single "Good For You" and the recent track, "Same Old Love" that quickly drew her fans.
The popular singer also cited that her pals, which include Taylor Swift, has helped her to trust others again. "Taylor makes me feel empowered, like I can trust new people," Gomez said. She went on to talk about Swift's squad saying, "All of those girls are so dope. We ran around taking pictures, changing dresses, dancing--super-cliche girly stuff, but it rocked. The way she cares about women is so adamant. It's pulling me out of my shell."
