Celebrating Hugh Hefner and the Famous Playboy Mansion on his Birthday

Hugh Hefner, the man behind the racy men's magazine, Playboy, turns 87 today. Hefner is not only a publishing giant but also a man who knows how to have "fun".

Hefner's lavish parties at the famous Playboy Mansion are legendary attracting the elite and celebrities in droves.

On his birthday, fans were hoping that the ever-young man would throw a sumptuous party in the Playboy Mansion. However, Hefner celebrated his birthday with a "low-key screening of his all-time favourite movie - Casablanca", reports E Online.

"We celebrated my birthday Friday night with friends and screened 'Casablanca,' my favorite film. These are happy days," Hefner tweeted.

On his birthday, we revisit some of the most interesting facts about the famous Playboy Mansion, celebrating Hefner and his spirit:

1. Hugh Hefner does not own the 21,987 square feet Playboy Mansion any more. He rents the mansion room-by-room from Playboy Enterprises. Annual rents range from $70,000 to $1.4 million.

2. Hefner bought the mansion in 1971 for around $1.5 million and the property is worth more than $50 million now.

3. The Playboy Mansion has a zoo and is one of the few homes to have a zoo license.

4. The current Playboy Mansion was also called "The Playboy mansion West" in order to not confuse the mansion with the original mansion in Chicago.

5. Hefner has a personal Hollywood walk of Fame star on the property.

6. The manse has a secret room called "The Elvis Room", which is not accessible to the public. Apparently, Elvis Presley had stayed in the room with eight Playboy bunnies as sleepmates!

7. The home is the only residence in Los Angeles that has a "Pyrotechnic License" that enables the place to set off fireworks.

8. The property has another structure in its compound called the game room with various modern and vintage arcade games.

9. Around 70 staff members work in the Playboy Mansion.

10. The Playboy girls are each given a room and a daily allowance of $1000 by Hefner. All his three weddings were held in the Mansion itself.

Another Heffner bunny hutch is up for grabs now. This is the residence down the lane from the iconic Playboy Mansion where all the bunnies apparently are housed. The manse has hit the market with an asking price of $11 million.
