'MacGyver' Reboot: Revival on CBS, Set All Ready for the Show; Pilot Episode will be Directed by James Wan

The popular and long-running action packed television series of the 1980s, "MacGyver,'' is set for a revival on CBS. The new "MacGyver" series is officially going to be revived after decades of failed plans.

According to Vine Report, James Wan will be one of the executive producers of the upcoming reboot of "MacGyver." Wan has directed many films such as "The Conjuring," "Furious 7," and "Insidious: Chapter 2." What's more exciting is that Wan will also direct the pilot episode.

Wan was asked by Crave Online in March 2015 about his plans for "MacGyver." Wan said that he had to give up the plans to pursue "Furious 7.'' He explained his concept for the revival saying, "In the context of the story, he gets blamed for something that he had designed, something really big that's something everyone wanted, and now someone has weaponized it and everyone's coming after him. He's running for his life and he's trying to clear his name, not quite unlike the structure of 'Enemy of the State.' So imagine 'Enemy of the State,' if Will Smith had the brains of MacGyver."

Aside from Wan, Scott Gemill will also join the revival to serve as the showrunner, while Henry Winkler and Michael Clear will be executive producers.

Richard Dean Anderson starred in the original "MacGyver'' as secret agent Angus MacGyver. The show first aired on television in 1985 on ABC and ran until May, 1992, with a total of 139 episodes and two TV films.

20th Century Fox is pushing through with its plans to revive and bring back "MacGyver'' to television through CBS, according to a report by Deadline Hollywood.

Christian Post said that CBS has not given a lot of details yet regarding the project, except that they are excited to work on it, as stated by The Hollywood Reporter.

"MacGyver" was originally planned by Paramount Pictures to be revived on television through a spin-off series entitled "Young MacGyver." Unfortunately, the project did not push through.
