Today, ESPN released their list of players ranking from 91-100. The list dubbed as #NBArank 2015 starts with the Phoenix Suns point guard, Brandon Knight, at 91. It then ends with Tony Allen, the shooting guard from Grizzlies Memphis at 100.
However, controversies and social media bashing were gained by the site because of the 93rd player on the list. The social media reacted to the list because the player who now occupies the 93rd spot is none other done Kobe Bryant. Yup, Kobe who used to be on the 40th spot last year was listed to be the 93rd player of the ESPN NBA ranking. According to ESPN's insider profile, Kobe "at this stage, [he] has turned into a parody of himself, with seemingly every field goal attempt coming 'against all odds' as Bryant dominates the ball during possessions and often shoots long jumpers against double coverage."
Bleacherreport estimated that there are around 450 players in the NBA right now. And with the list released by ESPN, it would somehow suggest that out of 450 players in the league, 92 other players are somehow better than Kobe Bryant. And for such matter, fans and even non Kobe or Laker Fans reacted.
On a twitter post by a certain Mike, he questioned the current ranking of Kobe saying that, "I'm really tired of Kobe being disrespected. No way there's 92 players better than him. #NBArank" A certain Josh also shared his sentiments online posting that, "i'm no Lakers fan but kobe at 93? just mere spots ahead of... elfrid payton? nene? trevor ariza? lol #NBArank"
There is still no official comment coming from Kobe regarding ESPN's new ranking putting him on the 93rd spot. But for those who knew Kobe well, he would rather put his words into action, and let the fans decide whether his game performance is worth to be on the 93rd spot. Though others may think that this season would be his last, with Kobe's athleticism and discipline, many things could happen. He could either affirm his so-called 'approaching athletic senility' or rise up against ESPN's implicit challenge.
