The new Spider-Man stand-alone might swerve and focus on Miles Morales rather than Peter Parker. Marvel and Sony cast Tom Holland for the latest attempt at Parker. But it's not the end of the road for Morales. Director Jon Watts was asked if fans ever got close to seeing Holland as the lead character, he was evasive and said: "I can't talk about that, because, you know, that will reveal too much. We're still writing the story...we haven't finished all the way through the story yet, so who knows."
This should not be taken as a confirmation obviously, but it's not a denial either. In some rumors, it said that Miles Morales will be brought into the universe alongside Peter Parker for a multiple Spider-Man vehicle, or at least a support character for Parker.
What Culture said that Sony might have missed something with this new casting. They should have brought back Toby Maguire for Civil War, and used him as Spider-Man to recapture the unmasking moment, and then realize that it was a terrible idea because it may target his family.
The Spider-Man reboot which is still untitled is set for release on July 28th, 2017, after Tom Holland first appears as Peter Parker and Spider-Man in Civil War.
According to Hit Flix, fans of the Spider-Man reboot have suggested that perhaps it was time for Peter to step aside and to let Miles Morales take the reins. It was in 2011 when Morales was first introduced in the ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN universe. When controversy emerged over having a non-white Spider-Man (Miles is of Black Hispanic descent), the teen actor soon became a fan favorite. With the casting of Tom Holland as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Spider-Man, Morales' fate is yet to be known.
When the director was asked if Miles could still be part of the MCU, Watts didn't say no. But he would love it if somehow Peter Parker got a hold of the Realty Gem.
