Dr. Oz Buys Palm Beach Estate

Palm Beach Daily News real estate writer Darrell Hofheinz reports that, based on the records filed with the Palm Beach County Clerk's Office, Dr. Mehmet Oz (or simply known as Dr. Oz) and his wife Liza are behind the purchase of Louwana, a beachfront house located at 473 N. County Road, through an $18 million deed.

Sitting on the 1.2 acre lot with a 150 feet oceanfront is a 12,483 square-foot house commissioned by Gurnee Munn and wife, Marie Louise Wanamaker Munn, owner of the Wanamaker department store in Philadelphia. The estate's name came from the contraction of Mrs. Munn's names.

Sean Stewart-Muniz of The Real Deal describes that the all-white residence was designed by famous architect Addison Mizner. The details of the house, namely the cypress ceilings, the so-called "Scheherazade" stairway and the original blue octagonal tile floors and walls in the master bathroom, have survived the 96 years of its existence. It is one of the 40 homes which Mizner designed and which still stands today, with almost all of its rooms having ocean views.

According to Mark David's article in Variety, the most recent listing for the property shows that the red tile roofed combination of Mediterranean and Spanish Revival style has twelve family and staff bedrooms, plus twelve full and three and half bathrooms. Its formal living room measures 36 feet with a large fireplace and exposed wood ceiling. The dining room, which is 32 feet in length, has terra-cotta floors and French doors leading to a terrace by the side of the ocean. There is a step-down library/den with parquet flooring and an antique fireplace. On its gated grounds are the front and rear motor courts, with the latter having a detached two-car garage and a living space just above it. The entrance courtyard, which is likewise gated and walled, features a fountain, a salt water swimming pool with a pool house nearby, some spacious ocean-side terraces, a tennis court and a palm tree-dotted lawn. The estate also boasts a beachside cabana with its living room, bedroom, and a his and her bath or changing rooms.

Also named as "America's Doctor," Dr. Oz is the host to his own popular program, "The Dr. Oz Show," which tackles health topics.
