The adobe compound of 'Space Jam' Director Joe Pytka in Santa Fe, NM, is a collection of meticulous Spanish-Pueblo Revival buildings that includes a chapel and a library - and listed on the market for a whopping $12.5 million.
The Spanish style property known as Las Milpas, has been renovated under the guidance of historical experts, spearheaded by Joe Pytka, considered as one of the best directors of TV commercials, and he yelled "Cut!" at none other than Michael Jordan when directed "Space Jam."
According to Realtor, the director was determined to restore the compound while maintaining its historical accuracy. "He just did everything," said listing agent Paul Duran, "From tearing up the floors and numbering the wood planks, to putting in a new roof, new stucco-everything."
The compound has over 12,000 square feet of living space and sits on 1.5 acres of land, including the five-bedroom main house. The property features radiant heating, while its inset windows and thick clay walls keep the interiors cool.
Buildings currently standing on the property were not around when the original structure was built in 1886; those additions were built with authentic materials and original building methods.
Fox News said when Pytka bought the property from longtime Santa Fe residents, it was in poor condition. Then he rebuilt a few of the buildings, using mud plaster for the walls and natural dyes that old tribes would have used.
"Over the years, director Pytka collected Spanish-American art that is representative of its [Northern New Mexico] culture. When you walk in the house, it's like a museum. It's like stepping back in time," Duran says.
Unique objects with cultural significance such as statues, books, tinwork, quilts, religious art, wood carvings, chests, pottery, and various forms of art were carefully selected for the home.
Listing agent Duran is looking for a potential buyer "who will continue to be a steward of true representation of Northern New Mexico life."
