'X-Men: Apocalypse' Update: Official Synopsis Suggests New Leader; Longer Running Time Revealed

Over the weekend, 20th Century Fox partnered with M&M's and released an "X-Men" teaser for fans online. The teaser comes with an image of their yellow and green M&Ms dressed as Magneto and Storm, along with the movie's official synopsis, which fans are clamoring for. It reads as follows:

"Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto, to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven with the help of Professor X must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction." Last year's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" already made significant changes to the tone of the X-Men world, and the new movie promises to shake things up even more. Aside from the new villain Apocalypse, one key change based on the synopsis will be the rise of Raven (Mystique) as the new leader of the super-mutants.

Moreover, ComingSoon.Net reported that director Bryan Singer revealed that the new X-Men movie will be significantly longer than the previous films. Speaking at the San Pedro International Filmfest last Friday, the director said hinted that "Apocalypse" will be the culmination of all the previous "X-Men" flicks.

"The X-Men movies I usually I keep under two hours, but this one I may actually let be a longer movie because it's sort of a wrap-up of six movies. It's kind of a wrap up of X-Men 1, 2, 3, First Class, Days of Future Past, and there's even an homage at the end, a scene," Singer said.

It has previously been revealed that the upcoming movie will feature younger versions of the superheroes. As reported by Collider, Cyclops will now be played by Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner will star as Jean Grey, Kodi Smit-McPhee will take the role of Nightcrawler, Storm will be played by Alexandra Shipp, and Lana Condor will play Jubilee.

Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Evan Peters, Lucas Till will return as Magneto, Professor X, Mystique, Beast, Moira MacTaggert, Quicksilver, and Havok. Oscar Isaac is starring as the villain Apocalypse.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is scheduled to hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
