The wait is finally over for the fans of both the "Mortal Instruments" book series and the 2013 film adaptation. The upcoming supernatural show will air in January on the rebranded Freeform network.
"Shadowhunters" is based on the six-book series written by Cassandra Clare. It was later adapted into a film in 2013. It starred Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell-Bowler as the main protagonists.
According to Deadline, the "Shadowhunters" TV series has released a new sneak peak ahead of its release on ABC Family/Freeform. It was also reported that a special episode titled "Beyond the Shadows: The Making of Shadowhunters" will be shown on Dec. 6, 9:30 p.m.
TV Line, on the other hand, reported about the interview with the cast and crew during the annual comic con event in New York City.
"What we tried to do is honor everything Cassie [Clare] created, but still try to throw in some surprises for the Mortal Instruments fans," showrunner Ed Decter said.
Decter added that the new adaptation will be faithful on how the author perceived them, there will be some differences emotionally. He gave an example of it with Dominic Sherwood's portrayal of Jace Herondale. The character is the main love interest of the Clary Flay, which was now played by Katherine McNamara.
"[Jace's] arrogance and his contempt for his own mortality" are the main things that will be explored with him, Sherwood acknowledged. "We go into Jace's history and past and we find out he can be pretty vulnerable at times."
Aside from the Jace and Clary pairing, the cast members also teased about the relationships of Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood and Simon and Isabelle.
"Shadowhunters" follows a young Clary Fay, who learns about her true parentage as a daughter of two well-known Shadowhunters. They are a group of human-angel hybrids who were tasked to hunt demons.
Later on, Clary then meets, fights and falls in love with a young Shadowhunter named Jace. She is joined by Jace and their other friends as they start to unravel the mysteries of their kind.
The cast members include Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Emeraude Toubia, Matthew Daddario and Harry Shum, Jr.
"Shadowhunters" series will premiere on Jan. 12, 2016 on ABC Family/Freeform.
