Grimshaw Architects, a London based architecture firm, has recently submitted designs for a 90-story mixed use skyscraper, the Aspire Tower, which will be built in the suburb of Sydney, Australia.
According to ABC Sydney, designs for the Aspire Tower were solicited by the Parramatta City Council through a competition, which the Grimshaw Architects won. The tower will be a part of the development project called "The Parramatta square" and is slated to be the tallest building in Australia.
Earlier in April, the city council filed an application for the development of the Aspire Tower, which will be 336 meter tall and will have a roof height of 306 meters. The tower will have 700 residential units; all set around 14 six floor atriums. It will also have ample retail and commercial space along with a rooftop viewing deck.
A feature on the tower designs at Dezeen reads:
"As one of the tallest structures in Australia, the engineering of Aspire Tower consciously orientates itself to the wind and to sunlight. The highly adaptable facades accommodate all of the various planning arrangements of apartment type into a modular system. The tower's striking sculptural form twists upwards from its Church Street alignment to maximize the capture of the sun, the breeze and northern views for its residents."
While the city is looking forward to welcome the Aspire Tower, chief architect and partner at Grimshaw Architects, Andrew Cortese, said that by building the structure they wanted to set a new standard in sustainable and urban architecture.
"We hope that the tower will be recognized as a landmark through its balanced achievement of programmatic and environmental innovations, its rationality and buildability, and its uniquely sculptural form," Cortese said to Dezeen.
Grimshaw has undertaken many important projects and is a well-known architecture firm. Recently, it opened the second phase of the "Reading station" redevelopment"- a railway station project in England. They are currently working on the remaining phases, which will be completed by 2014.
