'101 Dalmatians' Cruella De Vil To Be Brought to Life by 'Fifty Shades' Screenwriter, More Upcoming Disney Films

The glamorous Dalmatian fur obsessed villain is making a comeback. As per Hollywood Reporter, Disney's "101 Dalmatians" adaptation will hit the big screen within 2017-2020. Cruella De Vil will be bought to life by the "Fifty Shades" screenwriter Kelly Marcel.

Kelly Marcel has worked with Disney in 2013 by writing the script for "Saving Mr Banks," which was directed by John Lee Hancock. As for Cruella De Vil however, Marcel will be working hand in hand with Steve Zissis in polishing the story.

Cruella De Vil first made an appearance in Dodie Smith's 1956 novel "The Hundred and One Dalmatians" which became one of Disney's icons. It was then made into an animated film in 1961. The film then had a sequel which was screened in 2000 entitled "102 Dalmatians."

In addition to Cruella, "Dumbo" is also set to hit the theatres which would be directed by Tim Burton, while Resse Witherspoon is set to star and produce in "Tink," which is based on Peter Pan character Tinker Bell. As per the news website, Witherspoon is set to produce the film with Bruna Papandrea.

A "Maleficent" sequel with Angelina Jolie is also in the works, which would be written by Linda Woolverton. Along with "Maleficent," Dwayne Johnson is also attached to the live-action adaptation of "Mulan" and "Jungle Cruise".

The Hollywood Reporter also made additional announcement stating that four slots are open for Disney's premiere dating December 22, 2017, November 2, 2018, March 29, 2019, and November 18, 2019, however it wasn't specified on what specific movies would fill the slots.

As per The Telegraph, Disney is increasing their pace in releasing numerous movie adaptations such as "Alice Through the Looking Glass" which is a follow up on Tim Burton's "Alice in the Wonderland." "Iron Man"'s director, Jon Favreau is currently in the works for "Jungle Book"'s remake which is set to screen on 2016. "Beauty and the Beast" which would be directed by Bill Condon will then hit the big screen on 2017.
