"Castle" star Nathan Fillion recently defended the showrunners' decision to break up Rick Castle and Kate Beckett.
In an interview with TV Line, the actor said that he feels it's necessary so that fans will start rooting for the onscreen couple again. Fillion also revealed that Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley reassured him that Rick and Kate will get back together later on in the episode. In fact, the split will just be temporary, and no divorce will take place.
Meanwhile, the actor also shared that in the upcoming episodes, Rick will try his best to win Kate back. In order to do so, he will revert back to his comedic and witty ways from the earlier seasons of "Castle."
However, even after Fillion revealed his two cents on Rick and Kate's split, some fans still believe that it's an unnecessary move for the once hit ABC series. Some fans wrote on Design & Trend that they are not happy with Winter and Hawley splitting up the two because fans waited for them to be together for the past seven seasons.
@Chris Cline wrote, "While I have really enjoyed the season so far, I don't see why they feel the need for this over-aching plot. The show worked just fine as a series of one off episodes that had just enough to tie them together to make it fun."
Another fan wrote, "Ah for Pete's bloody sake - since when does light and comedic preclude married, something they've only been for six moths? Lazy writing that they can't make 'married' work, and the idea that we have to plow through this dreck for the rest of the season apparently is actually depressing."
In other news, the co-showrunners previously asked fans to stick around and continue watching the upcoming episodes.
"Castle" Season 8 airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
