Brie Larson is set to replace Jennifer Lawrence in the upcoming film "The Glass Castle."
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Larson has been offered the lead role in the movie adaptation of the autobiographical story published in 2005. Written by Jeanette Walls, the story is a memoir of a girl who grew up with dysfunctional parents under unconventional situations. Walls has an artist mother and an alcoholic father who have "ideals and stubborn nonconformity."
The Lionsgate drama will be directed by Destin Cretton, the same director of "Short Term 12" where Larson first earned awards, Variety said. "The Glass Castle" will be produced by Gil Netter and Erik Feig. Cretton and Noxon have written the first drafts of scripts, with additional drafts coming from Andrew Lanham.
The 26-year-old actress is becoming one of the most in-demand actress these days. "Room," where Larson stars as a mother of a five-year-old child and was held captive, has been receiving rave reviews since its debut in Telluride, Colorado and Toronto. Brie Larson has also been cast for a female lead role in "Kong: Skull Island" and has been offered a role in "Battle of the Sexes," a Billie Jean King biopic. She recently appeared in "Trainwreck."
The lead role was intended for Jennifer Lawrence, who's been eyeing the role since 2013, according to Vanity Fair. But being an in-demand actress herself, Lawrence's schedule has been quite full and she's been busy playing other equally great roles.
The "Hunger Games" actress signed to produce and star "The Glass Castle" in 2013, but eventually dropped it as it's been delayed for several years already, said The Hollywood Reporter. Variety said the film couldn't find a male lead role and so JLaw left the project. Some of the projects Jennifer Lawrence is currently working on include a sci-fi love story "The Passenger" and "The Rosie Project."
