Console Race: 'Phil Spencer' Uncertain if 'Xbox One' can Catch Up with the PS4's Huge Sales Lead

Xbox Head Phil Spencer says that he is not confident if Xbox One would be able to catch up with the huge lead of the Sony PlayStation 4.

Phil Spencer reportedly admitted this during the 2015 GeekWire Summit. When he was asked about his opinion on Sony's PS4, he said, "They [Sony] have a huge lead and they have a good product. I love the content, the games, line-up that they have."

On the other hand, speaking on how Microsoft and Xbox One are doing, Spencer said, "One thing that I probably didn't realize as much as I should have when I started in this role was the impact that the launch had on our team here in Redmond, the Xbox team. Because it's easy to read the blogs and the sites and my Twitter feed and see what the customers think of our brand and our product, but the team in Redmond took as much of a hit as the external community did around the launch."

According to IGN, one of the major steps that gave Xbox one the opportunity to reclaim support from the gaming community was its announcement during the 2015 E3 that Xbox One will have backwards compatibility with some older games. This means that Xbox One owners will be able to play older titles with those who own an Xbox 360.

Furthermore he has noted, "So I would never question the ability of our organization, but I'll say we're not motivated by beating Sony, we're motivated by gaining as many customers as we can."

Phil Spencer has also been recently reported to have expressed confidence that Sony will drop the price of PS4 this year. If the price drop does happen, is it likely that the "huge lead" of PlayStation 4 will be much harder for Xbox One to catch up with.
