As the release date of Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes closer, the different speculations and commotions set by die hard star wars fans grow hotter by the day.
Just recently, some fans are outraged as "Attack the Block" star John Boyega gets cast as the first black Stormtrooper in the much awaited "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" movie. Surprisingly, the talented actor does not really care about what the narrow-minded fans think. According to Cinema Blend, the actor doesn't have to feel sorry about it and instead thinks that these fans should "get used to it."
In an interview with V Magazine, 23-year-old John Boyega opened about people being cynical to seeing a black Stormtrooper, saying, "I'm in the movie, what are you going to do about it? You either enjoy it or you don't. I'm not saying get used to the future, but what is already happening. People of color and women are increasingly being shown on-screen. For things to be whitewashed just doesn't make sense."In the said interview, he also mentioned that he was mentored by Iron Man star Robert Downey, Jr.
Boyega further talked about his role as "Finn" in the upcoming film, while being careful not to divulge to much information. According to Comic Book Movie, Boyega has said that Finn's character or role in the movie is "very surprising." It can be recalled that many fans had reacted when a the first Teaser clip of Finn in the Star Wars movie as a Stormtrooper appeared last year. A year later he turns into a light saber-wielding Jedi.
John is aware that many are uncomfortable seeing non-white protagonists. But for Boyega, who grew up in the rough neighborhood of London where he had to struggle to avoid the stereotypical roles black actors are repeatedly cast for, he has a great response to the pre-judgment-- and is right, they should get used to it.
