Students from the University of Texas at Austin will hold a subtle yet hilarious kind of protest to show that they are in absolute refusal of the new 'Campus Carry Policy' which allows properly-licensed firearms owners to carry concealed handguns into most buildings on campus, and requiring campus presidents to designate a 'gun-free zone' in the campus.
Jessica Jin, a violin performance major in UT-Austin, set up an event dubbed as the 'Campus (Dildo) Carry' in Facebook to show their outmost disagreement with the new 'Campus Carry.'
"The State of Texas has decided that it is not at all obnoxious to allow deadly concealed weapons in classrooms, however it DOES have strict rules about free sexual expression, to protect your innocence. You would receive a citation for taking a DILDO to class before you would get in trouble for taking a gun to class," Jin wrote on the event page of 'Campus (Dildo) Carry.'
In her interview with the Houston Chronicler, Jin admitted that she has been receiving death threats because of the event that she organized.
"They're incredibly offended! So much outrage! They're calling for my head," said Jin. "People want me dead for a dildo."
Jin also explained why she used dildos of all things.
"Firstly, it is just plain funny. A campus bobbing with dildos is the stuff of every prankster's dreams. It's also self-aware. We're all a bunch of dildos for allowing this debate to go on for so long," Jin said. "The narratives surrounding sexuality (or just dildos, in this case) and guns are more intertwined than one would expect, and more similarities seem to unfold every minute. They each have the power to instantly masculate or emasculate at a moment's notice. Some shootings in this past year can even be traced straight back to sexual repression. Dildos and guns are in it together for the long haul," stated Jin.
The 'Campus (Dildo) Carry' started on Aug. 24, 2015, the first day of long session classes.
Jin urges everyone via the event page to participate.
"ANYBODY can participate in solidarity: alum, non-UT students, people outside of Texas. Come one dildo, come all dildos."
