Android Phone Rumors and Updates: Presenting Pepsi's Very Own Phone Brand

Pepsi is apparently making an Android phone called the Pepsi P1. A leaked image that has been dug up in some Android sites shows that the new device is clearly branded with the Pepsi logo. But the soft drink company hasn't designed the phone itself. Pepsi has contracted an unknown phone maker to do the job (the device does have a certain Huawei aesthetic to it, for what it's worth). The move has already been seen in other brands attempts' in the past (like Kodak), and they had produced not so favorable results.

According to The Verge, this new Smartphone features a 5.5-inch display, a 1080p screen, 2GB of RAM, a 1.7GHz processor, a 13-megapixel camera, and a 3,000 mAh battery. These affordable Android phones will be sold in China. And when it goes on sale, Pepsi will only charge 1,299 Yuan or about US$205.

PepsiCo Inc. said that the Smartphone is real, and that Pepsi is just licensing its branding. The phone will be manufactured by another phone company.

The brand that stirs up the essence of a refreshing beverage drink may soon stir up something unusual. Pepsi is apparently venturing into the tech world with a Smartphone.

While the news may seem unreliable, there are a number of reputed Android sites that have leaked the rumors, and Pepsi's official Weibo account has also teased the phone.

Noewin also reports of the new Pepsi phone sporting a 5.5-inch display with a 1080p resolution, and a 13MP camera. The report goes on to reveal that this new phone device is powered by a 1.7 GHz processor and 2GB of RAM. The phone is expected to be called Pepsi P1 and will likely cost only $200.

While it's a bit hard to imagine that a multi-national beverage company would hop into this kind of business venture, Pepsi is reportedly contracting with a phone manufacturer (much like Nokia), and outsourcing the manufacturing of the devices to other phone makers. But these are all speculations until full details of the device are revealed.
