Two Netflix shows, "Orange is the New Black" and "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," are breaking the mold of television programming these days. In an interview with CNBC, "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" cast member Tituss Burgess said that Netflix has now become a network that is synonymous to diversity.
"Netflix is not beholden to advertising so Netflix can do whatever they want. It's a different story when you rely on a third party to begin to make your decisions. You make your decision based on who's paying for this," he said.
The actor, who plays the role of Titus Andromedon on the show, also said that he wants to see bold changes on television in the coming years.
"TV should just reflect more of who America is. It should reflect the darkest and the lightest sides. It should represent all genders and sexual orientations so much so that we no longer blink when we see content about a gay couple or a transgender couple," he said.
Meanwhile, "Orange is the New Black" star Dascha Polanco recently spoke at the Advertising Week in New York City where she dished on television diversity in the world today.
"I think they have more freedom. I think they have the freedom to be more creative and take their product, their series to the next level. They already pushed the media on how you view media; why not take a risk?" she said.
In other news, Polanco recently spoke with Periscope to confirm that she's single once again. In the past, Polanco revealed that she had a fiancé, but no one has seen him yet.
"Yes, I'm single. It's hard for me to trust people. I love hard and people don't really love anymore," she said.
"Orange is the New Black" Season 4 and "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" Season 2 will return to Netflix in 2016.
