Introducing the USB KILLER 2.0: Literally Kills Your Computer in Seconds

Almost every transaction nowadays runs with software or through a particular application. And it would be for our best interest to safeguard each transaction with the help of other programs such as anti-virus in order to prevent malicious activities such as hacking and even deletion of important files to be perpetuated.

However, such scenario would somehow lose its significance when compared to a new type of threat that does not only destroy files, but ultimately destroys the physical computer itself. And perhaps the most significant factor for it to be done is the fact that it only requires a USB to kill your computer. It is not an excerpt from a spy film, but rather it is a reality that a USB Killer has been invented in Russia by a security research company known only as Dark Purple.

Dark Purple claimed that their USB Killer 2.0 could actually destroy almost any device that has USB interface. Though the technical specifications of the USB Killer 2.0 is not yet that clear, mashable reported that "the device rapidly discharges a capacitor, or sends "minus 220" Volts through the USB interface," thus frying a motherboard in the process.

If you are wondering why it is dubbed as USB Killer version 2.0, according to thehackernews, this is not the first time Dark Purple made similar device. "The first version of USB Killer was consist of a DC/DC converter, a few caps and an FET. When plugged into a system, the converter in the USB Killer would charge the caps up to -110V, apply that voltage to signal lines of the USB interface, and repeat the entire process until everything possible in the computer is broken down," said thn. But his time around USB Killer 2.0 only needs seconds to kill a computer. (Click For Video)

What do you think of this killer device? No pun intended.
