Marisa Marcantonio, the person behind StyleBeat, believes that the most important trend in interior design is the one that celebrates a full life.
"Lives with greater meaning and experiences are tending to trump other things that may have been more important in the past," said Marcantonio. "Experiences resonate on a deeper level."
In her interview with Boston, Marcantonio shared some of her insights on how to give full life to home interiors this coming fall and New Year.
On Statement Making Art
Marcantonio said that adding something in your home like a "one giant piece hanging over sofa" can make an impact.
Having a coffee table books can add soul and character into a room.
"[The books could be] important reads, travel, topics that excite you," she said. "When other people see what you are interested in, that starts conversation, as they might have a shared experience
On Being Traditional
Marcantonio shared that some of her favorite elements are oversized florals and antiquities.
"You can't go wrong with classic design," she said. "The difference is there is a fresh appeal to the way traditional is being done now. A lot of designers are paying homage to the designers of the past."
She also said that when looking for traditional designs homeowners needs to watch out for three things that serves as markers of things that are looking outdated. These markers are "window treatments (like a balloon shade), the way upholstery is finished, and trim on pillows."
On Bohemian Wanderlust
This interior design style features a lot of pattern and worldly influences.
"[This style uses] intricate decorative techniques with worldly inspiration to deliver a look of intrigue," added Marcantonio.
