'Outlander' News: Author Diana Gabaldon Talks About a New Novel and Season 3; PLUS! New Actress Joins the Show

"Outlander" author Diana Gabaldon, who started the series back in 1991, revealed that she's currently writing the series' ninth novel. According to Hypable, the next "Outlander" book might have a connection with the show's season three. This means that the hit show, which is still filming its second season, may have already gotten the green light for a third run.

"Right now I am in fact working on book nine now that I've got done with all of the travelling this year. I'm able to sit this month and actually write...The goal is to get book nine to come out concurrently with the third season of the show if we get a third season of the show," the author said in an appearance at a bookshop in Arizona.

Aside from the story of main protagonists Jamie and Claire, Gabaldon's novels also follow the lives of three other characters, namely: Lord John Grey, Roger McKenzie Wakefield, and Joan MacKimmie. These characters have not been introduced in the show, but Hypable reports they will be included in season two. The new novel, which is said to be about Lord John Grey's brother, will be featured in the possible season three.

Meanwhile, Scotland Now reports that a stunning Irish actress has just joined the time travel series for its season two. The 22-year-old Maeve Foley, who lists "dancer, model" as her credentials on Twitter, has already been welcomed by the show's avid fans.

No official word has been released as to what Foley's role will be.

The ninth novel in the "Outlander" book series is set for a 2017 publication. Gabaldon is currently busy promoting two upcoming titles in her 18th century Scotland universe, namely, "The Outlandish Companion Volume Two" and "The Official Oultander Coloring Book."

Clearly, Gabaldon's empire is getting a revival, thanks to the surprising hit TV adaptation. "Outlander" season 2 is scheduled for a spring 2016 premiere.
