‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12 News: Denzel Washington Steps in the Medical Drama as Director

Denzel Washington surprisingly will be a part of "Grey's Anatomy" season 12. However, do not get your hopes up as he will not play a character in the said series. "The Training Day" actor will be sitting in the director's chair to direct an episode for the medical drama series.

According to ET Online, the 60-year-old multi-awarded actor will be directing "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 episode 9 of the hit ABC drama. As reported, this will be Washington's debut as a director on a TV series and this was made possible due to his friend Debbie Allen who also does star, direct, and produce for the series.

The ninth episode that the 60-year-old veteran actor will direct is scheduled to be slated on November.

According to TV Line, Washington had directed two films in the past apart from this TV directorial debut. "Antwone Fisher" which won him an Outstanding Supporting Actor and Producers Guild of America Award. And the other film, "The Great Debaters" in 2008 which he also won two awards: Best Actor Award for BET and for NAACP.

Apart from the earlier speculations that Washington stepping in "Grey's Anatomy" might be the new love interest of Meredith Grey. It was clear that "Grey's Anatomy" showrunner Shonda Rhimes said that this may not be the right time yet for Ellen Pompeo's role Meredith Grey to be jumping in a relationship.

As scooped by E! News, Rhimes said that, "I have not planned to [introduce a new love interest for her] and that's not really the focus of what we're doing with her right now," she said. "Meredith is in a rebirth and she's evolving. I'm watching the character do what the character's doing and I'll see where it goes."

Watch "Grey's Anatomy" every Thursdays at 8 pm on ABC.
