Game developers Sega and Hardlight Studios are gearing up to release "Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom" to various mobile devices. The game is said to be a sequel of the popular "Sonic Dash" mobile game which was downloaded by more than 140 million users, a report from iDigital Times said on Thursday.
"When we first were creating Dash 2 we looked at the success of Dash 1," Ruby Urlings of Hardlight Studios said, according to the report. "So we made sure we kept the key elements that made it a success and then listen to what the fans were missing and what they asked for was more varied gameplay," she continued.
Adweek describes "Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom" as an "endless runner starring the famous blue hedgehog, which challenges players to run as long as possible to complete challenges and earn points." It was said that in the game, the lead playable character Sonic "runs away from the screen automatically."
"Players swipe left and right to move Sonic between running lanes, and swipe up and down to jump over or roll under obstacles. Players can also roll into enemies on the path to defeat them. Gamers collect blue dash orbs as they run, which charge the dash meter at the top of the screen. Once filled, players double-tap to trigger a moment of invincibility, which sends them quickly forward, ignoring all obstacles," the report said.
Players will assume the role of Sonic in the game and they can actually collect two sets of rings, either the free gold rings or the premium red rings. It was said that players can use the "red rings" to buy additional characters when they eventually lose in the game. Meanwhile, the gold rings can be used to upgrade characters.
"The mobile game will also come with a companion app that works with your iWatch. It's a fitness tracker that will you give you more in-game prizes by maxing out the number of steps you take," iDigital Times said.
Players can now download the "Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom" via Apple iOS. It is expected to arrive in Android on Oct. 15.
