With the influx of incredibly good smartphone cameras, consumers have preferred them considering the slim design. However, as they flourish, Sony is introducing the best yet full frame compact camera in the market.
Sony cameras are being used as benchmark in the recent years. pocketable shooters that deliver bigger sensors, brighter lenses, and better image quality than similarly sized models are just some of the reasons why Sony has been treated as gold standard.
And now, they released the RX1R II which is impeccably great.
The camera boasts a full-frame 42-megapixel sensor, with the similar huge backside-illuminated imager found in the interchangeable-lens a7R II placed in a 2.88-inch deep body that has the same size as a human palm. The camera has a fixed 35mm F/2.0 lens.
In order for the sensor to fit into a palm-size camera, Sony engineers creatively and innovatively attached it to the lens. This design widens the angle at which light can pass through the optics and hit the sensor that makes the camera capture as much detail as possible.
The camera has a flash sync speed of 1/2000 seconds which is magnificent. According to Wired, it also enables the photographer to turn off optical low-pass filter (OLPF) which combats moire and odd color artifacts in finely detailed patterns, but it also makes the resulting image look a bit softer.
It comes with a tilting 3-inch LCD, a retractable 2.3-million-dot OLED eye-level viewfinder, built-in Wi-Fi and NFC, a continuous shooting speed of 5fps, hot shoe and a 3.5mm microphone port. The camera captures 14-bit uncompressed RAW images, ramps up to ISO 102,400, has an autofocus with 399 phase-detection points and 25 contrast-detection points that combine to cover 45 percent of the full-frame sensor.
On a sad note, the camera only shoots 1080p at up to 60fps in AVCHD format.
According to Sony senior technology manager Mark Weir, the combination of sensor size, resolution, and filter settings adds up to a "compact without any compromise in image quality."
The RX1R II is priced at $3,300 and will come out to the market in November.
